2013 PTA QUIZ NIGHT
A great and fun quiz night last night. Congrats to "The Governors Plus" on their win, and even bigger Congrats to the Teachers for relinquishing the wooden spoon.
A big Thank You to everyone involved in organising, running, and then clearing up after the event.
Annual General Meeting of Tadworth Primary School PTA – 11th November 2013
President’s Report
In September, we changed our school mission statement to'Enjoy and Achieve'.
We want all of the children who come to Tadworth Primary School to achieve in all areas and also to enjoy their primary school years. We believe that it is primarily the people working in and associated with our school that help make it possible for the children to enjoy and achieve. We also believe that by offering an engaging and meaningful curriculum, complemented by a stimulating, well-resourcedindoor and outdoor environment, that children are able to liveout this mission of ‘enjoying and achieving’.
It has once again been a very full and successful year for our PTA. The events run continue to draw in and attract a large crowd – creating a sense of community whilst also raising money for the school.
Our school has never looked better; however, before anycurrent or existing PTA funded project has been completed, another is always on the horizon.
School budgets are currently in a vulnerable and uncertainposition, as are budgets in many other public sector areas, andwe anticipate that the funds generated by PTA will be of increasing importance in the coming years. The recent spending of just over £3000 of PTA funds on additional ‘toys’ (Learning resources) for Reception and Year 1 have been extremely well received; though less visible to the masses than something like a new trim trail, they are never the less of equal importance.
We believe that we use our funding as a school very wisely and we do endeavour to do all that we can with our budget to have the greatest impact on the children and their learning. Annually we spend significant sums of money on books, not just for the library but also for guided and banded books and money raised via the Special School Fund continues to be used to support ICT.
In the future we may need to consider using money raised byPTA for resources such as those mentioned above which would have in the past been purchased primarily from the school’s own budget. We will continue to have open dialogue with the committee about any potential or planned spendingof PTA funds so that parents are clear as to the why we are spending PTA funds as we are.
The PTA newsletter and the Tadworth Times are just a couple of places where one can read about the fantastic work of the PTA.
Recently we secured £2000 from the Pfizer Community Fund. In submitting a bid for funding, we considered three possible projects, all on our School Development Plan, opting for the one which ticked the most boxes (in terms of meeting criteria- in a hope that we would be successful in receiving money). This money will go towards an additional bike/scooter shelter on our field where the alley comes into school. Unfortunately the £2000 secured, leaves us about £4500 short of the total needed for the project so to make this a reality we are now approaching other sources in the hope that we will securemore money to make this project a reality.
We have already allocated money from our school budget to finish work at the edge of the KS2 playground. This will see new railings and a levelled area for table tennis – outside and alongside the library and green room.
We are also keen to add further to our lovely KS1 playground by developing the grassed area in the centre; possibly withsomething like a slide and a tunnel - this should finish off‘Tellytubbyland’ or ‘In the Night Garden’ which the space always reminds me of! In looking at this area we will also need to consider replacing or changing the wooden fort where the damp ground is repeatedly and rapidly rotting the wooden posts.
At this time, we are planning that PTA funding will be used to continue to enhance the school’s Outdoor Environment - possibly in part-funding the Bike Shelter and definitely the KS1 Playground - whilst continuing to support, as it does annually: clubs, Christmas Decorations Day and other extras.
My thanks as ever to Nicole Duke (Chair) and Lucy Thorpe(Secretary) without whom many of the events in the past 12 months would not have run and also to Alison Ratcliffe who is our new treasurer. Thank you also to any other parents who have led or supported in the running and organising of events during the year and for any who have already agreed to lead on events during the current school year. Your work ismaking a significant contribution to our school community and to the children ‘enjoying and achieving’ their time atTadworth Primary School.
Thank you.

PTA Summer Ball Raises over £3,000
Expectations were high this year for our sold out Summer Ball and we were not disappointed. The sun shone and the evening began with champagne and a putting competition on the world famous greens of Walton Heath Golf Club organised by Rob Ganpatsingh. A superb dinner, enjoyed by over 100 parents and staff, was followed by our raffle and auction compered by Malcolm Cowcher. Items in this year's auction included the ultimate golf day, signed David Beckham pictures and underpants and dinner, bed and breakfast at the Selsdon Park Hotel. A perfect evening was rounded off with dancing into the small hours. The total raised on Saturday night was an amazing £3,200. Thank you to all of you who attended the event and helped us raise so much money.
The PTA are also very grateful to all those who donated raffle and auction prizes. They were: Bliss Hair Company, Blue Anchor Pub, Chapman & Son Butchers, Epsom Golf Club, Heaven Scent Therapies, Legal & General, One Stop, Ora Hair, Pampered Chef, Sleeping Beauty, Surrey Downs Golf Club, Walton Heath Golf Club and Zeal. We really couldn't do it without the support of local businesses.
Tadworth Primary's Red Nose Bake Off!
Thank you to all the children and adults who produced cakes
for our Comic Relief Fundraising Event. It will form the main
feature in next week’s Tadworth Times with plenty of pictures
of some of the truly amazing cakes which had been made
along with how much money was raised. FP
Stars in Your Eyes
2012 Raises over £1600!!!
This year’s PTA run ‘Stars in Your Eyes’ was as ever a spectacular, fun
filled night. With ten great acts, ranging from Glee to Celine Dion; Robbie
Williams to Boy George and even an appearance from Gareth Malone and the Work
Place Choir to name but a few, the audience was treated to some ‘quality’
vocals and the occasional dance moves too! Mrs Huntingford was once again on
compere duties with her great repertoire of jokes and natural comic timing.
After all the acts were finished and the voting (using money) was complete, the
winner was announced as Adele, fantastically performed by Cathy Heath. The
performances were followed by a disco and when all was said and done, an
amazing £1,621.62 was raised for the school to support ‘Outdoor Learning and
Playtimes’. I know that Karlene (event organizer) has already publically
thanked on the night, an amazing squad of parents and staff who helped out in
many different ways. However, the real thanks have to go to her, and her
husband Jamie for giving so generously of their time in making the event the
success that it was.

Naked Chefs Evening 2012 Goes Down A Treat
Once again, a band of stalwart dads teamed up to design and deliver an evening of fine wine, fine dining and top entertainment on behalf of Tadworth Primary School after a group of 10 parents made the winning bid of £550 at the Summer Party back in May this year.
On behalf of all the staff, children and everyone connected to the school , a huge thank you goes to the dads for all of their efforts and also to the winning parents for making such a generous bid.
Here are some personal messages that the dining guests would like to pass on:
Once again a few brave hardy souls were willing to put their taste buds to the test for the Naked chefs Dinner in aid of the school. This year’s theme was Morocco, which meant we were served Moroccan food cooked and served by 6 of the dads who were all wannabe Tommy Coopers, resplendent in black dinner jackets and fez’s. Fortunately we all survived the evening and are looking to getting our own back in the New Year when the theme will be exotic animals and insects...
The Saults
Thank you to our hosts Jill and Cameron Reid. Thank you to the dads who took time out to wine and dine us. Lovely menu thanks. It was a night of 'Fez' tivities. One minute it was Moroccan next we were ensconced in a 'Tommy Cooper' quiz. As the wine flowed a great night was had by all.
Andrew and Sarah Pemberton
Thank you for an hilarious evening, great fun, great company, good food and fantastic dance moves!!
The Phillips
We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and loved the Moroccan theme! Great food, company and entertainment...what more can we say? A big Thank You to the Dads who obviously worked really hard to ensure that the evening was a success in every respect. Also our thanks to Jill and Cameron for hosting and putting up with us!
The McConnells
A fun time was had by all. Fantastic food and drink and great company. We were well and truly looked after by the Moroccan Dads. Thank you to them all once again.

CAMPING WEEKEND
RAISES £600 !!
Last Saturday saw the first
“Tadworth Primary Family Fun Day & Camping Weekend”. On Saturday we
enjoyed the last of the summer sun which allowed the children to play whilst
parents enjoyed a leisurely drink chatting amongst friends. The children
enjoyed two bouncy castles provided by Kelly & Nick Muckle (www.diamondbouncycastles.co.uk), Fulham Football Academy (they will be back during the half
term break with their fantastic training sessions), and a beauty bar especially
for the girls. Miss Duke provided some fantastic glitter tattoos, with a
variety of parents helping with face and nail painting.
At 5.00pm the BBQ was opened by the Dads of Tadworth, and the
children enjoyed a tea of burgers/hotdogs & chips. Ice creams
followed but it wasn’t long before the day trippers left and the camp fire was
lit for the Tadworth campers. The Woodings’ caravan provided the site
office, and some extra light as the night drew in. Toasted marshmallows,
hot chocolate and whipped cream were enjoyed by all the children before they
were tucked up in their beds (in a variety of layers to keep them warm!) and
the parents sat around the camp fire until the chilly night air forced everyone
to bed.
The dawn chorus was met with the sound of children chattering
excitedly in bed, waiting for their morning breakfast. Once again the BBQ
was fired up, and bacon baps, cereal, tea & coffee was enjoyed by all the
campers.
Unfortunately with rain forecast, the campers took down their
tents and the grounds of Tadworth became a playing field once more. The
“Tadworth Primary Family Fun Day & Camping Weekend” will be back in 2013 -
watch out for dates next year! A big thank you to Kelly Muckle, Georgina
Wooding and the PTA for their role in making this weekend enjoyable, £600 was
raised for the school!
Georgina Wooding.

ONE YEAR ON, MR KELLY GIVES US AN AWESOME INTERVIEW ABOUT OUR LOVELY LIBRARY
Last year, 17 March 2011, Tadworth Primary School opened its new library. It replaced the old crumbing down facilities. Even though it wasn’t an unpleasant place to be, the old library was away from the main part of the school. Just over a year later, on 22 March 2012, we interviewed our head teacher, Mr Kelly.
We asked Mr. Kelly different questions and were excited to discover what he thought. ”Do you have a favourite book?” He replied with the answer: “There are so many books I love. I think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is brilliant - especially the part where Charlie expects to find the last golden ticket and doesn’t. Every time I read it, even though I know the outcome, I hope he will find that missing ticket.”
We then asked him how many books are in the library. He came back with a cool answer, “Around 4,500. We based our library on having 10-12 books for every child.” Year 4 thought that this was amazing.
The last question we asked was whether he adds new books to the library every year. He answered straight back, “Yes we do. We have different books every month.” We are grateful to Mr Kelly for letting us interview him.
We hope everyone
continues to enjoy our wonderful library.
Holly Jenkins.

Springtime Fair Success!
One of my
favourite phrases is “The sun always shines on the righteous”, and how true it
was last Saturday when Tadworth Primary School hosted their annual Spring Fair.
The brightly shining sun was the tip of the iceberg, making the day one to
remember. Stalls were set up in the
outside playground without any fear of rain, just “had anyone bought any sun
cream along”?
The Easter Bonnet Parade received some fantastic entries with Esme Goodwin awarded the prize for the KS1 entry and Lucia Schifano the KS2 prize.
The Easter Egg Decorating Competition was won by Mary O’Gorman in Robins and
Ellie Strugnell in Yr 3.
Children and parents alike enjoyed traditional stalls
such as “Hook A Duck” and “Pick A Lolly” whilst brains were exercised on the
“Guess The Teacher” stall.
The Easter
Egg Hunt provided a good run around the school’s grounds, with the Bouncy Castle
and Penalty Shoot Out finally wearing the children out.
Fabulous food was provided on the Dad’s BBQ stall,
Refreshment and Cream Tea stalls and no stomachs were left empty!
Thank you to
all children, parents and friends who attended the event, you helped to raise
£1600 for the KS2 Trim Trail which is currently under development.
Georgina Wooding, PTA Spring Fair Organiser
A special
thanks to the Tadworth Primary School PTA and especially Mrs Wooding for
organising another fantastic event.

2011 President's Report
As presented by Justin Kelly, our Head Teacher and PTA President, at the PTA Annual General Meeting on 7th November 2011.
I would like to start by prefacing what I am going to say by pointing out that for the purpose of this report, I refer to this group as Tadworth Primary School Parent Teacher Association.
I fully support the sentiment behind the name FrOTh, which came about four years ago designed to try to include a ‘much larger association which includes people from the wider school community (i.e. grandparents, friends, ex-parents).’ And I believe that we will and should continue to include those interested in our school with our PTA however; I continue to explain to prospective parents what FroTh is – stating that it is our Parent Teacher Association. I spoke with committee members at the last meeting and also with school staff and I am proposing that this evening we formally agree to revert back to being known as Tadworth Primary School Parent Teacher Association.
It has once again been another very successful year for Tadworth Primary School’s PTA. A range of events have taken place during the last twelve months – some enhanced by the wonderful British weather and other’s unfortunately slightly hampered. The Christmas Fair raised significant funds through its raffle and who would have believed that on the back of it’s cancellation because of snow, we would have found ourselves on the playground in T-shirts eating ice creams at a new event - the Spring Fair. A sprinkling of rain at the start of the Leavers Barbeque could have marred the enjoyment of what is an annual event at Tadworth but spirits were not dampened and due to the commitment of the event organisers and those supporting, a fun time was had by all.
In the last twelve months, a number of parents have stepped forwards and led events for the first time. Stars in Your Eyes proved yet again to be a real hit and more recently the Circus demonstrated how when the going gets tough, the tough get going with parents pulling together to ensure that the event not only broke even but also made a handsome profit.
Money raised through these and other events/initiatives has continued to enhance provision for the children in so many ways including subsidising the cost of externally run clubs; funding for creativity in the classroom and also for money towards the larger more visible projects which will be enjoyed by not only existing but also future generations of children – most notably evident in the creation of our wonderful new library and the playground markings.
There is no doubt that pressure on the global financial economy is being felt in all sectors and the future of funding for schools is uncertain. The money raised by PTA will always help add to what is provided from the school’s own budget but it is crucial that we do not lose sight of the fact that it’s not just all about the money.
For the children attending the events, I am confident that the last thing on their minds is the profit margin but I am certain that they enjoy coming together with their friends and families for fun times and in so doing have also supported their school. It is important that as we move forwards we continue to focus as much on this side of what we do as the money raised.
Tadworth is the fourth school that I have worked in. In many ways our PTA is similar to those in the other three schools where I have worked most notably that there is a core of adults who give generously of their time in taking on roles on the committee, attending meetings, organising, leading and attending events and on the back of all of this frequently ask the question ‘how can we get more people involved?’ The difficulties faced by many of you present this evening in getting others involved in PTA, I would assert, is not unique to Tadworth and we must not let such challenges overshadow how much there is to celebrate about the association.
We are all busy people and I would like to thank anyone who has been involved in PTA but especially those who have led events/initiatives in the last twelve months. I would like to make particular mention this year of Clare Chapman who will be stepping down from the position of Chair. She has had a long association with PTA and I am confident will continue to help out as and when she can.
I think that the working party approach to the organising of events has proved successful in the last twelve months and I am keen for us to try, as we did this year, to agree the events for the following year in the summer term thus ensuring that what is in the diary is planned and manageable. In so doing, I appreciate that as with anything it is subject to change and that there will be challenges however I am also confident that it helps offer a clear informed overview to the planned programme and potentially eases the recruitment of people to help run and manage events.
As president of PTA and Headteacher of Tadworth Primary School, I truly value what our PTA has done for the school and hopefully will continue to do in the years ahead. You are an enthusiastic, committed group of people with the best interests of your children central to what we do and I always refer to what has been achieved by our PTA in school tours. I look forward to another successful year ahead.
Justin Kelly

PTA Give £10,000 for New Library!
Library Grand Opening set for 17th
March 2011
The paint has dried, the carpet’s about to go down and the furniture is being made – Tadworth Primary School is well on its way to having a new library! We are planning to have a Grand Opening for the children on the morning of 17th March 2011. This date has been chosen so that parents will then have an opportunity to visit the library during the parent/teacher consultations running that afternoon and evening. Unfortunately we are unable to invite all parents to the opening as we will not have enough room in the hall, however we plan to invite representatives from FroTh to attend. During Parents Evening and the following weeks, the school will be inviting parents and any other interested parties to buy a book for the new library, if they would like to do so, from a list of 200 top titles which we believe all children should have an opportunity to read while at primary school. There will also be an opportunity to sponsor our ‘Books of the Month’ scheme which the school is plannig to run on a rolling programme.
Year 6 have
written letters inviting over thirty special guests to the opening, ranging
from classic authors such as Michael Morpurgo and Jacqueline Wilson, to
political figures including Cameron and Clegg! They are very excited to see
whether they receive a response.
FroTh are
delighted to have been able to hand over a cheque in the sum of £10,000 to Mr
Justin Kelly, Head Teacher as a substantiakl contribution to this very
important project.
Mr. Kelly
said “A huge thank you to FroTh for all of their hard work in raising funds for
our new library. We firmly believe that reading
should be at the heart of every child’s education and having a brand new
library at the heart of our school will help make this possible.”

‘Stars in Your Eyes 2010’
£2200 raised for the new library!
Saturday 13th November saw the school hall transformed for our sell out "Stars in Your Eyes" event. Tickets in the final days were in hot demand and were almost as difficult to obtain as those for Take That.
Sandra Huntingford was once again at the helm and in fine form with gags-a-plenty. The audience were treated to a variety of magical musical moments including classic tracks by the likes of Robbie Williams, Frank Sinatra, Elvis and ‘Peter Kay’?! There were some rather scary moments provided mainly by The Tadworth Horrors but luckily The Ghostbusters were on hand to sort them out!
The Monty Python classic – ‘Always look on the Bright Side of Life’ had the audience swaying in their seats and a touch of class was added with an Italian classic involving cream?!?
When all was sung and done, this year’s winners were revealed in the form of The Tadworth Teachers with their superbly choreographed rendition of ‘Making your Mind Up’! The event made over £2200 profit which will be going towards our children’s new library resource centre. A big thank you to everyone who came and supported the event and to all those involved in putting it together :
