‘Stars in Your Eyes 2010’
£2200 raised for the new library!
Saturday 13th November saw the school hall transformed for our sell out "Stars in Your Eyes" event. Tickets in the final days were in hot demand and were almost as difficult to obtain as those for Take That.
Sandra Huntingford was once again at the helm and in fine form with gags-a-plenty. The audience were treated to a variety of magical musical moments including classic tracks by the likes of Robbie Williams, Frank Sinatra, Elvis and ‘Peter Kay’?! There were some rather scary moments provided mainly by The Tadworth Horrors but luckily The Ghostbusters were on hand to sort them out!
The Monty Python classic – ‘Always look on the Bright Side of Life’ had the audience swaying in their seats and a touch of class was added with an Italian classic involving cream?!?
When all was sung and done, this year’s winners were revealed in the form of The Tadworth Teachers with their superbly choreographed rendition of ‘Making your Mind Up’! The event made over £2200 profit which will be going towards our children’s new library resource centre. A big thank you to everyone who came and supported the event and to all those involved in putting it together :

• Corrine and her team for all the wonderful hair and makeup
• Wendy Connolly and Sara Cox and the rest of the crew, for running the bar, without which we wouldn’t have had so much fun on the night • Mike and Sarah Davies for stocking the bar with thanks to Sainsbury’s discounts!
• Suzanne Marshall and the rest of the office team for their support over the last couple of months while this event was being promoted and organised
• For all the PTA members who came along the day before and on the morning to help get the hall ready. They all know who they are; This wouldn't have been possible without them!
• The DJ and his crew - thanks for putting on a great show. We hope you enjoyed working with us and that you enjoyed seeing the acts too !! And the after-event disco was enjoyed by everyone!

Naked Chefs Evening
Saturday 16th October 2010
And so another forever memorable night was had in the name
of Froth on Saturday 16th October.
6 Dads turned out to
cater for and to entertain a dinner party at the house of Jo and Paddy
McConnell on Saturday night. Eight of their friends, colleagues and neighbours
turned up and wiled away the evening savouring fine wines, gourmet food, a few
delicate tasty cocktails, and to experience the delights of high class
entertainment as provided by Messrs Alston and Gibson. From a very challenging
“Beat the Intro”, to a version of the old classic “Mr & Mrs” which most
certainly could not grace our primetime screens, the levels of laughter and
bickering about question details suggested it was all very well received. No
doubt there were a lot of people with very sore throats on Sunday morning
following the mass efforts of everyone attempting to copy their favourite pop
stars during the karaoke into the early hours.
And apart from a few
sore heads, sore throats, two wine spillages, one kitchen spillage which will
remain a secret between the chefs, one forgotten course (which I think we got
away with due to a genius recovery plan) and one lost mobile phone, I am
pleased to report no major problems or areas of concern came out of the night.
Even the couple who decided that the best way around the problem of a 90 minute
wait for a cab home was to borrow a mountain bike and tag along, made it home
with no reported injuries or charges of being in control of a bicycle in high
heels and pencil skirt…and before you all ask, yes there may well be a photo or
two!!
A massive thanks is
owed to the following:
• To all
the guests for bidding and raising so much money for our children at Tadworth
Primary School
• To Paddy
and Jo McConnell for being brave enough to let us loose on their beautiful
kitchen and home
• To
Anthony McConnell for greeting the guests very professionally in waistcoat and
bow tie
• To the
team of 6 dads who selflessly gave up so much time to talk about this in the
pub over so many evenings, including the very emotional Claudio “You’re my best
mate, I love you” Komba(…so named after his very appreciative style of approach
towards his colleagues after several glasses of high quality red vino) who
joined the Dads for the first time this year after a small amount of gentle
persuasion..not sure by who!!
Comments from some of the dinner guests:
What an excellent evening.
The dad’s were fantastic, we felt well and truly looked after. The food was good and the alcohol, well, was
flowing (far too fast!).
The company was the best thing about the night. It was really good to get to know the Dad’s
and of course to kick back and chill with good friends.
Definitely a great auction prize, well worth spending
Cameron’s hard earned cash on!
(Jill & Cameron Reid)
I must say we had a brilliant evening. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I thought the chefs/dads made a fabulous and professional effort at waiting on
us, feeding us and providing great entertainment. Great that you dressed for
the occasion.
The food was good
although yes the beef was a little overcooked and dry and definately needed a
gravy but I enjoyed everything else. I thought the shots was a good idea but it
did send us into hangover city the next day.
I would certainly
recommend that anyone bid for this prize in the raffle as it was an great night
out for a worthy cause.
(Sarah and Andrew Pemberton)
All I can say is what a fantastic evening and so much better
than we could have ever anticipated!
Both Tony have little memory past 10 o'clock which I can only blame you
lot for with these tasty little drinks that kept reappearing (although very
welcomed....) and goldfish bowls of wine (also very welcomed...)
Entertainment value
very good from start to finish, food tasty and alcohol flowing as it should
be. Better service than we would ever
get in a restaurant although restaurants are not generally trying to put you in
a coma by the end of the night................!!
Thanks to you and all
the team for a memorable evening.
(Jane & Tony Sault)

Summer Ball 2010
Our annual Summer Ball was held on the evening of
Saturday 26th June 2010 at the beautiful Surrey Downs Golf Club.
The gods were kind to us and the sun shone and the
football was being played on Sunday afternoon (but that’s another story. . .).
It was an evening of dining, dancing and drinking
and more importantly raising funds for Tadworth Primary. The event raised
a massive £3,200 and this will go a long way to supporting our school in the
next school year. Thank you so much everyone.
The auction was also a great success and we would
like to thank Epsom Downs Race Course, McLaren, Walton Heath & Surrey Downs
Golf Clubs, Fulham Football Club and of course our fantastic dads who agreed to
another dinner, for donating their time and services!
The PTA would like to say a big thank you to all
those who attended and made the evening a fantastic success and a thank you to
all those parents who purchased raffle tickets. Your support is so
important to us, we really couldn’t do it without you.
The PTA would also like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to
all those local businesses that donated raffle prizes, we really appreciate
your generosity.

Curry and Quiz Night 2010
The
tables were set, the dinner was on the stove. You could cut the anticipation
with a knife! Twelve teams turned out for the annual Tadworth Primary PTA quiz
night on Friday 5 March.
The Desperate Housewives made a reappearance from last year; The “B team” turned out to be just that, coming second at the end of the night.
The Desperate Housewives made a reappearance from last year; The “B team” turned out to be just that, coming second at the end of the night.
“The Losers
didn’t lose”; “The lionesses” were rather tame; “The Latecomers” just about
made it on time; One team didn’t want to answer any questions, citing that they
were “Only here for the curry”, although they did rather well in the end. We
thought the school staff would make an entry, but the closest we saw was a
rather rowdy bunch who turned out to be “Not the teachers” !
Congratulations to “Monkey Tennis” for their triumphant display of knowledge
driving to the top of the night’s league table.
A great night was had by all puzzling over 7 rounds of questions ranging from
identifying movies and song lyrics through to testing their knowledge on
history and food anagrams. Let’s just say that Toad in the Hole in will never be looked at in the same way again!
A massive thank you to Peggy, Minal, Sharon & co for the fabulous feast
which they prepared for the event, and to Mr Dudley and the team for the
preparation of the hall.
PS Many thanks also to Rob and his stalwart assistant Jamie for setting a
challenging but thoroughly enjoyable quiz—we are looking forward to next year’s!

Christmas Fair - 5th December 2009
This event was a great success!! Santa arrived
perched not on his traditional sleigh, but instead, he was in a very luxurious
white Bentley Continental Convertible
courtesy of Romans International of Banstead (one of the country's leading
suppliers of highly prestigious and specialist cars ) - much to the delight of
not only the many people stood awaiting his arrival, but also to the members of
the local press who attended.
Tadworth Primary PTA would like to say a big thank
you to all the parents, children and staff who attended the event. The
hall was bustling with activity and the singing & dancing from each of the
year groups was fantastic — well done children! Thank you also to
everybody who donated items to the fair. These donations really do make a
massive difference to us and we really appreciate your generosity. The
success of the fair is shown in the very generous £1890 raised, every penny of
which will directly benefit the school.
TADWORTH PRIMARY PTA would also like to say a big
thank you to all those local businesses and parents that donated Raffle prizes,
they are: Chapman & Son, Bliss Hair, Lazer Hub Crawley, Colin Bull Swimming

Naked Chefs 2009 - Saturday 5th September 09
The date was set. The venue was organised. As parents,
all we had to do as winners of this auction prize was turn up. We would love to
tell you that if you ever attend the School Ball this Auction Prize is one to
steer clear of.
However, our table has won it three years running
now so that may give you a clue. It is an amazing evening, the Dads do
everything - starting with welcoming guests and serving drinks &
canapés, through to cooking dinner to a very high standard. And they even wash
up! During our evening we were also entertained by the Dads with
various games and sing-a-longs, and even a little bell ringing! Before we knew
it, it was 1.00am and time for Sing-Star and a drop of Limoncello!
Every year it just gets better; the effort put in
by the Dads is fantastic (they were a new bunch this year) and so had a lot to
live up to which they managed very well and deserve a big thank you for giving
up their time. The beauty of this prize is not only do we raise a lot of money
for the school but friendships are made which helps the school community. The
money is a great achievement but without the school
community it is hard to achieve everything we want.
(Mandy Coucher)
Comments from some of the dinner guests:
"This was billed as a dinner party prepared
and served in your own home but was so much more. The effort you guys put into
preparing and delivering the entertainment made the night........as did
Claudio's impersonation of Michael Jackson.
Thanks"
(Malcolm Coucher)

A warm welcome with a cold glass of Champagne
Friends sitting inside whilst the
"waiters" announce us to our friends,
A smile here, and a handshake there and we move
into the sitting room,
Let the fun begin... waiter top me up I want to be
in this campaign.
The bubbles flow and the wine is poured as the
excitement grows,
What will the chef dads serve us tonight? Is it
traditional faire,
Or are they mixing something old with something
new... who knows?!?
We eat and laugh and joke and play,
Someone dances... a moon dance and songs are sang,
Old jokes are told and for a moment we ponder over
a glass (or two} of port,
This has truly been a wonderful day.
(Claudio Komba)
A really top evening. Great food, great company and
all for a great cause – our school. If there’s one thing I’ll bid for next year
it’ll be a night with the naked chefs! With an extra amount for them to keep
their clothes on!
(Lesley and Alex)

Dads' 5-a-side Football 2009
Gathering on the 12th July, 4 teams competed in the annual Tadworth
Primary Dad's 5-a-side football tournament, aka Tadworth Primary World Cup
(senior).
The groundsman had done an excellent job, with razor sharp white lines
and grass freshly cut to ensure an immaculate and predictable bounce - Wembley
would have been jealous.
Kicked off by the eagerly anticipated derby between the two Reception
teams, the hot favourites went down 2:1 to the underdogs. Next up was the
heavyweights of the much promised but little delivered Year 2 and the veterans
of many a campaign, Year 6. Year 2 coming out on top, 3:1, in a
professional display of football by both teams.
The tournament continued through the rounds, with many a fine match
played by all teams. All teams having won a game it was left to the last
two games to propel the teams into the finals or reduce them to infighting,
fans protesting against the chairman, sacking the manager and selling all their
best assets in order to survive next year (in the Walton Championship).
It was quite ugly.
In the end Year 2 and Year 6 topped the table with 2 wins each.
The final was another hotly contested match, with Year 6 triumphant 2:0 in a
response to the earlier loss against Year 2.
It was a great day, with the weather holding up well for football (not
too hot and not too wet!). Many a fine picnic eaten, and thanks to Frank
O'Sullivan for providing great burgers, hotdogs and chicken wings on the
BBQ. With over £200 raised for the PTA, I'm sure everyone will be back
next year, despite the sore legs and sunburn, to revenge those lost opportunities
and the chance to talk it up down the Pub, about how the great Tadworth Primary
World Cup (senior) was won and lost on the decision of a dodgy referee who
needed glasses.

Walton Pageant 2009
The weather was warm and sunny, and the
crowds turned out in their masses to see four of our Dads dressed as the
Beatles.
The Pageant theme this year was "My Favourite Song" and we chose "Yellow Submarine". A huge thanks to Tadworth Court for the loan of their wonderful Yellow Submarine which really stood out.

Christmas Fair 2008
The 2008
Christmas Fair was memorable for lots of reasons and despite the appalling
weather we still had an amazing turn out.
Santa arrived on the back of a Harley (thanks to the local Harley Group) and for the next two hours the school was a hive of activity.
Each of the year groups sang their Christmas songs, there were loads of stalls, fantastic food, mulled wine, face painting and of course Santa.
Thanks to the support of parents and friends of the school we raised £3,000.
